About

As if you didn’t know, this website is all about potatoes!  Did you believe that?  Well, “gotcha!” then, because yams are actually not potatoes at all, and yams are what this site is really all about. Did you know that yams can also produce amazing?! Gotcha again!

Yams are vegetables to be sure, but that is where their relationship to the humble white potato ends.  The yam is a far nobler vegetable.  In fact, many people assume that a yam is the same thing as a sweet potato, but even that is not true.  Those two vegetables are not related at all, either.  A true yam is from Africa or the mountains of Japan, and can be poisonous if eaten without cooking.  Read up on your yams, and have a Yamtastic Day!

What I Do

We exist to help educate the world on matters pertaining to yams:  what they really are, how they can be used in cooking, and the history of yams in human civilization. I was inspired after watching a special, and from there, this website was born.Yams are a staple food in tropical climates, but are only very rarely seen in the United States of America or Canada.  Yams can be used in a variety of ways in recipes, but if you Google “yam recipes,” you are most likely going to find recipes calling for sweet potatoes rather than yams.  Finding true yam recipes in the western world takes a bit of skill.  Hopefully, Yam Online will help identify some of the more authentic recipes.
